Native Dog Brewing is a dog-friendly brewery in Camden founded by husband and wife Bobby and Lauren Glaze, both pharmacists, who share an enthusiasm for craft beer, community and dogs. The name comes from Baxter, a scruffy stray the couple met during a pharmacy internship with the Indian Health Service in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. Learning that the dog was likely to be picked up by the reservation’s dog catcher, they rescued him on July 12, 2013, with no supplies or plan. Baxter came home with them and was part of every milestone that followed, from Bobby’s proposal to a move to Kentucky for Lauren’s residency and finally a return to Bobby’s hometown of Camden. The brewery now hosts an annual Rescue Day for Baxter with friends and their pups, and part of the proceeds go to local organizations. Native Dog also runs a pizza truck.
